Passion..KLPAC

We, TESL sem 4 students were assigned to watch a play in town. Most of us went there, scheduled on the night of april fool.. The play started at 8.30p.m. 'Passion' by Joe Hasham to me is quite seductive play, few sexual arousal activity and silent play. The most repeated utterances in this play is in the beginning and once in the end of the play.

"Life is so strange.. For two years I have been betrayed.."

In general, it is all about passion of love, men fighting for a women or vise versa, the cofusion in love based on the passion in dancing. In the end we revealed that the two women are actually lesbians. The expressions of the feelings by the characters and the technical sounds portray the conflicts in the play. In conclusion, I do not really understand what the play is all about, but I think the main character has done a very great job in exposed the feelings of passion. So did the other few characters, they had done really well and the message had conveyed successfully even there is not much utterances in the play.
I had really enjoyed the moment, and later, when we have the opportunity, we would have arrange the second trip to watch another fantastic play.

As You Like It

The next movie that I really enjoy is ‘As You Like It’. I think it is quite simple and suitable for beginner learners. The main theme is true love, where it indicates the audience to be more appropriate and sensitive in love. In this particular play, we can see that both the main characters, Orlando and Rosalind have to pass all of the obstacles in order to be with each other. Another interesting part is the way they express their love through poems. I was so amazed on how they manage to communicate where there is still no communication technology invented. In overall, I have learned something new and it is a good example of true love with a great ending. The play is entertaining, besides educational to us.

Streetcar Named Desire

Streetcar Named Desire is my most preferable play of all. It is quite simple for us, and understandable. It start when Stanley Kowalski, Stella’s husband having tragic with Blanche.
He is loyal to his friends, passionate to his wife, and heartlessly cruel to Blanche. Later on, he becomes such as a disturbing degenerate, beating his wife and rapes his sister-in-law. He shows no regret. In the other hand, Blanche represents the women flirting with guys. Even she has lost her painful pastime, but I still uneasy with her life style. She should not flirting around as a teacher whom to be known as innocent. The most terrible is when she asks Mitch to marry her. But, after all, one thing felt sad is that her relationship has been destroyed by Stanley and she has been raped by Stanley and she had been committed to an insane asylum at last.

Pygmalion and Shakespeare Walla

Pygmalion and Shakespeare Walla are quite different from each other. Obviously Pygmalion is more interesting and i enjoyed it so much. It is a movie that describes how accent can determine economic opportunity and social status. It also provides an introduction to phonetics and to the Greek myth of Pygmalion. The movie allows children to work through the romantic situations of Eliza, Higgins and Eliza's friend, Freddie. Eliza demonstrates an inner strength that will not accept the limitations of a class system that denies the intrinsic value of the individual. This is a very nice movie where a girl from a florist family become a standard class women. In contrats, Shakespeare Walla, is a boring movie until the end. I do not really understand the message he tries to convey.

Aspects Considered in Evaluating Others

In evaluating others' micro teaching, there are few aspects that I have considered more. First I think the set induction have a big influence through out the lesson. It actually play an important role in bringing up the students' attention to keep on focus on the lesson of the day. If the lesson starts with a bored set induction, the whole class will lose their concentration at the first place. We as teachers to be, should consider the students' interest and do not prepare activity that even you yourself do not enjoy it. Even the set induction is really interesting and attractive, we must go back to the objective of a set induction to open the correct schemata. The most important thing the set induction must be related to the topic that we are going to focus in that lesson.
Then, I will consider on the main activity in pre and while reading stages. The exercise should not be too hard or too easy depending on the level of proficiency of students. In order to make it more interesting, maybe we can insert some pictures or activity which is more to student centered, involving students.
The last aspect that I would stress more is on the teacher's presentation. This includes the voice projection and appearance. The teacher's voice projection should be loud and clear. The instruction should be clear and simple so that the students will not have any problem in getting the message. Teacher's appearance is also important in order to set up the image of a teacher. it will give impression for the students.

How others evaluate mine?

In presenting a lesson, i think the discussion or what we call, peer evaluation is important so that we know what dos and don'ts in a presentation. Most of the time, we tend to ignore or take the mistakes we have done for granted as if it is not really affecting the whole lesson, even if they actually did. I have completed my first stimulated teaching and thanks to all the praises, comments and even critics given by my friends and peers. The positive comments that they have pointed out are including, interesting activity, clear voice projection and well prepared. I also get some comment to help me improve in the next presentation, which I think until today have been my major problems, such as lacking of vocabulary and grammar error. Peer evaluation is very helpful and effective in order to improve own's skills.

Teiresias..

Teiresias is discussing with Oedipus on the crisis arised in Thebes when he makes Oedipus miserable. Oedipus starts to abuse the prophet verbally as he thought that he has been betrayed. It foreshadows the later scene when the prophet warns the king and telling him that he is the one who is actually blind. Teiresias is the first character who questions about Oedipus's parentage. He also mentioned that Oedipus is the one who kills his own father and fathered children with his mother. Teiresias remains ne of the most powerful character in the play.

Oedipus Rex

For the first time I read this text of Oedipus Rex, I found it kind of boring whereas the beginning part of the drama is quite slow in the mood. However, later on, it is interesting to stay with the flow of the story due to the part when Oedipus is in dilemma of life and inner conflict of own. Maybe this is what has destined to a wise person like him. God is testing him as though he is an intelligent leader. He is the one who solved the riddle of Sphinx, as a king, he gives light and guidance to his people until the time he tries to fix everything which is discovered. There is no one perfect in this world. Oedipus could not even deny his faith of killing his own father and get married to his mother although he had tried hard to avoid. This drama conveys lots of messages linked to one’s life and fortune.

Stages in Life

“The Four Ages of Man”by William Butler Yeats

He with body waged a fight,
But body won;
it walks upright.
Then he struggled with the heart;
Innocent and peace depart.
Then he struggled with the mind;
His proud heart he left behind.
Now his wars on God begin;
At stroke of midnight God shall win.
There are seven stages of life mentioned in “As you like it” by Shakespeare; however, there are only four stages of life in “The Four Ages of Man” by William Butler Yeats as I inserted above. Well, it is acceptable that each person has their own view of life. In my own personal view, it is up to our own self to believe. No matter how many stages of human living, we should take things for granted. We don’t ever know when the world will be over. Life is irreplaceable to waste a single second. This is our destiny; we could not go against what has been destined by God just as what happened to Oedipus. Appreciate what we have today as if there is no tomorrow. Expect the unexpected.

Stage Performance

Few things that I would probably consider in my stage performance would be;
1. Roles of character
2. The audience
3. Intonations and gestures
4. Setting
The roles of character should be studied seriously because this empathy sensibility would affect our performance. We have to feel as real as if we are the character assigned. I think audience is quite important due to the elements in the performance. If there are small kids or even school children, the element of violence should not be inserted; in contrast, it would be more applicable if there are elements of fairy tales in the storyline. I would be weak on the natural of intonations and gestures. It is kind of hard for me to make it natural in a way to represent the feeling of the particular character. Last but not least, the setting would be also considered whether it is comfortable or hot for example.

First Exposure of Teaching Language of Drama

I felt that this course is quite hard to score due to the reading of drama which I do not really into it. However, the first lecture had kindly release my worried throughout the semester. Our respective lecturer, Dr Edwin had started by introducing the term of point of view. There a few kinds of point of view; first person narrator is when the storyteller is one of the characters in the story. Third person is when someone does not figure in the action, and in case he knows the internal doings of everyone in the story (omniscient narrator) or some part of it (limited omniscient narrator).
On that day, we had managed to discuss few exercise linked to the element point of view. Frankly, I am a little confused when dealing with some other texts which required us to identify the point of view. After few further exercise I could trained myself to specify the pronouns used in the narratives. This first lesson had actually revised my knowledge on point of view which we had learned in previous semester and improved my understanding on it.

start with nothing..

Seriously, I am kind of excited to have a blog on my own. It seems that i have never got one. hehe. I'm not sure what am I supposed to put in here. This is my first time, so I will strictly catch up what I suppose to and all the task assigned to us by Prof. Madya Dr. Edwin Malachi, our respective lecturer. As the first time blooger, I feel very eager to keep up on my updates in this course and also others in this TESL 4 Group. I know later we will appreaciate the consequences of this task, beside improving our skill in using technology and most important, how we manage to indicate the info and guidance between each other. Keep up the good work..
